At the 2017 Huawei Global Analyst Summit in Shenzhen, China on Wednesday, Huawei unveiled its CloudApp Platform that aims to ease the development of applications for partner companies.
The platform makes use of APIs for app integration, and “allows enterprises to leverage the value of network data, quickly respond to market changes, and seize new business opportunities,” according to a press release. The Huawei CloudApp Platform is technically an application container that sits directly on the mobile device, the release stated.
One of the core aims of the new platform is to speed up app development, by working with application development partners and integrating industry applications and industry data, the release said. The platform supports fast updates and real-time customization.

“Ubiquitous connections, open cloud platforms, and social technology industry applications facilitate the digital transformation of enterprises, and are also a three-layer architecture advocated by Huawei for the All-Cloud Network,” said Kevin Hu, president of the Huawei Switch and Enterprise Gateway product line, in the press release. “Huawei CloudApp Platform bears socialized industry apps, providing the ‘ All-online ‘ network cloud managed service experience, which achieves the deployment, acceptance, and operation and maintenance (O&M) of networks on the cloud, simplifying network management and lowering operating expense (OPEX) for enterprises.”
So far, most of the work that the CloudApp Platform has been used for is in education. One example given in the press release was of an app using geographic information system (GIS) maps to track school enrollment by region, which the release said could help a board of education better understand the issues in its particular jurisdiction.
Other examples noted in the release include an app designed to track students entering and leaving school to improve security measures and track missing children. Another app proposed network permission segmentation by student and teacher depending on the time of day.
Huawei also said in the release that it is working on other Huawei CloudApp Platform integrations in the education space. Future initiatives for the platform will focus on campus networks, enterprise branches, data centers, and Internet of Things (IoT), the release said.
